Whispers from the Gnomery

Postby LaserGnomes » Sat Nov 23, 2013 10:26 am

Been really AWOL regarding projects on here.
A lot of NDA work... a lot of work for works sake nothing too fun.

Friday we, Mind-2-Matter.com, acquired a 3ds Sense Scanner which uses the PrimeSense technology.
For those that know, know that PS was the opensource group behind unlocking the power of the Kinetic Camera. Their technology was bought and put into play on the Xbox Natal system following that.
Rumors of Apple buying them up for 345m are interesting but unfounded.

We brought this device down to TAM... did some hasty scanning on site. It worked pretty well honestly. Having used the PS ware in the past we knew that this was a play visit and real work is done in a proper studio. Once back at the Gnomery though... we did this....

"Gnorman", by Sarah Kelly
A solid clay sculpture weighing over 40lbs including a 2'x2' base board.
We emailed MakerBot to ask if their scanner could...
A. Scan shit 2' tall
B. Support and rotate accurately 40lbs of clay.

We have yet to get a response from them... but at $1500 their inferior scanner can DIAF.

Yup.... they had been denying it up until and beyond this first post.

It's still interesting. Glad we got one before the Apple logo shows up on the side.
