Aluminum Platform For Heated Bed

Postby watsonstudios » Fri May 17, 2013 9:21 pm

Here's the start of my heated bed mod. It will mount on the same mounting screws as the polycarbonate platform. The heated bed will sit on the aluminum, then on top of that, a 10x10" piece of borosilicate glass. I'll post more as I go. I had a little fun with my router cutting the aluminum and then engraving the Type A Machines Series 1 logo text (even though it's a different font). :)

Well hoooolllld on there. Let me finish the concept first. I would be happy to cut a few extra once I make sure everything works and fits. :D I still need to mount the heated bed (Helios from Panucatt) so there will be more holes drilled and tapped for that. Then figure out how the glass will sit on all that. This piece is just a first go. It was cut using a shear so it's not as flat as it could be. I do have the hole pattern for the platform I can post for those interested since it's not included in the drawings download.

Haha! Yeah, I guess I'm a little worried it may all be premature, especially if the concept doesn't work out as planned. I guess if worst comes to worst, it could actually take the place of the polly sheet as a cold bed too. It kinda looks cool. 8-)

I'm also very interested!

I've had some serious issues with large prints warping the past couple of days, one warped up so bad it pulled the strip of tape up about an inch off the plantform! I think a HBP + an enclosed build area will help greatly.
