Filament wiper

Postby nkloski » Thu Nov 05, 2015 11:55 am

I recently got some filament that had some debris in it, and so I designed a filament wiping mechanism.

I am not really a designer, so please be nice to me! :)

This modifies the filament guide that is on the new TAM machines and adds a cup on top to place a makeup sponge. It adds slightly more work to thread the filament through the sponge when starting up, but that is WAY better than having a clogged extruder :)

This probably would be better suited to having the sponge not on the extruder assembly (more weight to throw around) but since I did not want to print a whole new spool holder with this modification, this will do.

Also note that the new TAM printers have a tube that protects the filament from outside debris, but does not do anything for filament that is either already contaminated, or debris that falls on the top of the spool then gets fed into the extruder.

...and since there is a three file upload limit, here are the files for you to play with....I created the box in Fusion 360, and meshed them all together in Meshmixer.

This design may pinch the sponge a bit, and cause the filament to jam, so try with caution!
