NEW UNOFFICIAL BBB Image for Type A Machines Series 1
Clean & stable! Custom built with OctoPrint 1.2.13, webcam support, and more!
INITIAL RELEASE 7-4-16

Customized by NoNaym

QUICK (RE)INTRODUCTION

Image

Happy (US) Independence Day everybody! I'll keep this short for now; I'm Ryan, and I'm back after putting this together today in an attempt (that I've been meaning to make sooner) to create a cleaner and more "vanilla" OctoPrint image for the SD card in our Series 1's BBBs.

This image was inspired by the Octopi image that came with another printer I recently purchased. My initial intent here was to perform as clean of an install of OctoPrint and mjpg-streamer as possible on the latest Debian Jessie 8.5 image (from http://elinux.org/Beagleboard:BeagleBon ... pshot_lxqt), by going as "by-the-books" as possible when it came to installing OctoPrint and mjpg-streamer. At this point I believe I have done just that, and am posting it here for any brave soles to give it a try.

To flash this image to your MicroSD in Windows you will need to use Win32DiskImager which can be downloaded here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/

To flash this image to your MicroSD in OSX, you can try the Pi-Baker program (I have not tested this): http://www.tweaking4all.com/hardware/raspberry-pi/macosx-apple-pi-baker/

DO NOT FORGET TO BACKUP YOUR CURRENT IMAGE, OR AT LEAST YOUR UPLOADS AND TIMELAPSE FOLDERS, BEFORE FLASHING THIS OR ANY OTHER IMAGE TO YOUR MICROSD.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Download and unzip image
2) Flash image to 8GB microSD
3) Boot BBB from microSD (be patient here)
4) Connect using usual http://series1-1000.local address (no port numbers necessary)
4a) Follow first run wizard
4b) In some cases, or at least when choosing not to use Access Control, you may need to restart your machine (or at least restart OctoPrint) after completing the first run wizard
5) Customize any other plugins and settings to your liking
6) Print!

That's it for now! I hope people like this, and can help make it even better :)

Oh, and thanks again to RobertCNelson for the stock BBB Debian image, foosel for OctoPrint, Dan Lipsitt for the past pointers, the rest of the folks at TAM for making the Series 1, and of course the community!!

KNOWN BUGS:

- The only issue that I have noticed so far is that the webcam may take an extra minute or two to set itself up, but the image WILL show up after everything has loaded (so be patient after booting!)

- Let me know if you find any other issues...

THINGS TO KNOW:

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS TOTALLY EXPERIMENTAL SOFTWARE, AND I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR HOW YOU USE IT OR HOW IT MAY EFFECT YOU OR YOUR HARDWARE.

-Most settings have been left "un-configured" for now. So be sure to check out and customize settings like "Temperatures" and "GCODE Scripts" to your liking before doing much if any printing.

-You should be able to access the OctoPrint web GUI from your printers full ip address or http://series1-1000.local (no port number necessary as everything is running through port 80 now)

- The default computer name is series1-1000 with default user/pass of debian/temppwd, I would advise you to change the password with the "passwd" command in terminal ASAP after flashing.

- I have not yet enabled any Wifi abilities. I'm still open to doing this, but could use some motivation... anybody want to buy me the TP-LINK TL-WN722N wifi adapter that comes with new Series 1s? (mine came with a crappy older adapter, that really is pretty terrible) PM me if you might want to donate that small part to encourage me to add this feature.

- If you are using a higher end webcam and would like to fine tune the image, try pointing your web browser to http://series1-1000.local/webcam/control.html

- To set the system clock to your local time/timezone type "sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata" into terminal, and follow the prompts.

That should be all of the most important info I have on this image I am working on for now. If you are interested in giving this image a try... find the download link in the post above!

Hi nonaym
Using this Image now for my printer. Saw that it's a little downgrade to the older one.
Can I easy upgrade to the newest Version of octoprint without trouble?
Have you upgraded your Firmware too? To which Version?
Thanks for an answer
