PET photos?

Postby turnrock » Fri Nov 22, 2013 11:12 pm

Does anyone have photos of prints they have made with TAM PET?

It's been up all of 12 hours. Our roll literally is still wrapped.

The only objects printed with PET TAM are showing on their site. They have a minimal surface cube which looks pretty amazing.

We'll post our PET stuff once we get a second to swap heads and print some.

Heh, I just saw it on Wednesday, Andrew jumped up and stomped down on the cube thingy. It didn't break. Quite impressive.

Alas, I didn't take a photo.

Ouch! I wouldn't expect one of the most recyclable and widely available plastics in the world to cost roughly twice as much as PLA, but a little research shows that TAMs prices are inline with the rest of the market. I'd love to test it out, but at the rate that I blew through my last roll of PLA, I think I'll have to wait until the prices come down a bit.

It's on the pain in the ass level of GITD +10% or so.

Andrew has a handful of parts having printed with it for a few weeks.

Rod has ... 0 parts after several attempts to just get a first layer down (Clear).
The few he had that made it past layer 20 said that it was so brittle he could crush it in his hand.

We've been unable to test it as holidays have our Nerf business running crazy.. plus various other avenues have this thing printing PLA 20 hours a day.

PET would require a head swap IMO, like ABS would, to make sure you aren't clogging with mixed materials.

Would not recommend it for the novice... and the price matches the material qualities. If you don't need this material... I wouldn't buy it. Plenty of better for general printing materials out there.

Fair point, however:

1. Special Formulation
2. Limited amounts ever made in filament form.

As a general rule of thumb:
210-230C (otherwise it doesn't laminate and is rubbish).

Other than that, works.

Not as good as PLA at overhangs and bridging.

Can be quite flexible, but when more solid is very very strong.

The white is better than any PLA I've tested. The clear seemed the hardest to print with, but that was with the next gen winchester which is still a bit fussy.

I'll get some pictures posted. But with the focus on the Beta20 and I've not had a lot of time to print with the PET

We've got some down time so will print our "white torture" file in PET this week and post pictures.

This is with OLD school winchester... so should we expect more issues?
