Mini Hyena Vs. TAM V1 Drive gear

Postby turnrock » Fri Apr 19, 2013 3:38 pm

Tested out the Mini Hyena (http://blog.arcol.hu/) today with some crappy filament i have that usually grinds now that i have a .25 nozzle.

I assumed the Mini Hyena would grip the filament better because of the aggressive look of the teeth also the stock series1 gear always seems to be pulling the pla on the edge and never directly in the middle on the teeth.
The Series1 stock gear handled it way better and printed consistent even when it appeared to be grinding where the mh made harder skips causing unevenness.Im sure the mh performs great with quality filament but for my little test the Series1 drive gear wins! yeay !

(The bad lines in this photo of Series1 print is temperature related not skipping)
I may try to find a grooved bearing to keep filament in the center of the gear but for all i know that might ruin the magic.

Nice test! Great to know that our pinchwheel does the job!
