Re: Face....

This is one of things that is so great about 3D printing. I have been playing with 3D geometries for a while, and have created a lot of cool 2D pictures, but to take it a step further and actually design something on a computer and then create it and hold it in my hand...Just awesome!

Re: Face....

Correct! The geometry for the face was pulled from a graphic design program. Here is a picture I made from the program. https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/394710_465549220135716_1630866143_n.jpg The basic geometry... https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/942516_587147641309...

Re: Face....

The person that was cast from must be TINY! :| Looks really good. I wonder if clear would make the layers invisible like it does on carbon fiber sometimes. LOL! No....I plan to use this to make a mold to make a ceramic face, like a dolls face. Clear would probably work, I just happened to have a co...

Re: Face....

75 microns, actually! Turned out pretty nice unfinished, but layers were visible. I painted it to get a perfect finish to see if I can get better ceramic castings without any finishing needed. When I have a full day to watch my machine I want to try it at full scale...

Re: My first "successful" print!

Congrats. It was not too long ago I was struggling to print a simple cube! Keep at it!

Face....

My first attempt at a more realistic print. No finishing, just a few coats of automotive paint. https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/11920_587129307977706_1680129308_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/485575_587129404644363_1478570394_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.ne...

Re: Smoothing PLA prints with MEK

Also not impressed with my results using the Weld On 4. In all honesty it seems to "break down" the PLA more than dissolve it if that makes any sense. Definitely had the same cloudy surface film after drying.

Re: Smoothing PLA prints with MEK

Just thinking out loud here..... I used to make "thick" acrylic glue by putting a few pieces of acrylic in a jar with weld on. It would over a day or so dissolve the acrylic into solution. The weld on evaporates very quickly when exposed to the air leaving behind the acrylic. I am going to...
