Closed-loop motor control for better positioning

Ben Weiss' masters Mech E thesis was on "Closed-Loop Control of a 3D Printer Gantry" ( pdf ). He added linear encoders and independent controllers (based on teensy) to the x- and y-axes of a makerbot-style printer (MBot CUBE). His thesis contains detailed information about the background a...

Marlin firmware for Plywood 2013 TAM Series 1

I have an early plywood Series 1, "serial number" 0000018, and have been running older Marlin firmware on it. I wanted to try out some of Marlin's new features - PID autotuning via M303 - gcode access to EEPROM for storing & manipulating certain parameters via M501 and M502 - volumetri...

Re: Beta Bed Leveling - Thx Kevin

LaerGnomes, could you post a bill of materials for the bed leveling system you showed off? Especially links to the gauge and the gauge holder object would be appreciated. Edit: found one Tramming Gauge via Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:43453) Pittsburg 1" Travel Machinist's Dial...

Re: Move the filament spool for better printing

Hi Chris, that's a nice spool holder you designed. I'd like to laser-cut a copy myself. Could you share your cutting files? I'm attempting to print this spool holder as I write but the front corners are curling upwards for some reason (my Type A winchester extruder has a cooling fan) so I'm not sure...

Marlin / Sailfish firmware

Is the Sailfish fork of the Marlin firmware compatible with the Type A workflow (i.e. slic3r & Series 1 electronics)? If so, are there any caveats to be aware of when upgrading?

Extruder heating rates and masses

Miloh dropped by my lab earlier today to install the new Winchester extruder assembly. He also brought a hot-end with a power-resistor heating element. We decided to compare the heating rates and the mass of both. ( Note : one insulating cloth ring was left on the nichrome hot-end when its mass was ...
